Guardian Homes
Currently Seeking Guardian Homes
Here at New Doods on the Block our parent dogs are beloved members of our family. By introducing Guardian Homes we have been able to continue expanding our program, while giving each dog and puppy the best and most loving home.
A Goldendoodle needs to be a part of the family to develop to their full potential, and therefore, we utilize the guardian program.
This Guardian program allows local families an opportunity to own a “pick of the litter” puppy without paying the cost of a high quality dog. The Guardian family will raise, love and keep the puppy as a member of their family. The Guardian dog is your family pet and a part of your family, while ownership and breeding rights are retained by New Doods on the Block.
Guardian Obligations
We highly recommend guardian families continue basic obedience training. Our preferred local trainer provides a puppy board and train in which the puppy will attend for approximately two to three weeks around 10 weeks of age. This link will give more details on the board and train curriculum. https://caniskidz.com/learn-with-us
Live within 1 hour of New Lenox, IL
MUST have a physical fence
Raise the dog as an indoor dog, never to dwell outside
All other dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered
Be willing to coordinate, cooperate, and communicate with breeder
Continue crate training until the dog retires from our program
Keep the dog safe and contained at all times
Have reliable transportation at all times and be prepared to deliver the dog to us when needed throughout the year, if necessary (i.e. testing, breeding, litters, bonding, etc)
Prior experience owning and raising a dog preferred
No plans of relocating in the next 5 years
Allow at least 1-2 visits per calendar year from the breeder to discuss any issues concerning the care and supervision of the Guardian dog
Female guardian homes are required to notify us as soon as females go into heat. Females will then be in the breeder’s possession for 2-5 days during the initial breeding. The female may then return to the guardian family for the remainder of the pregnancy (2 months). The female returns to the breeder’s possession 1 week before the due date and will stay with the puppies for 6-7 weeks. After the female has completed the set amount of litters within the agreement (2-4) we pay for her to be spayed and she is returned to the guardian family to live out the rest of her happy life!
Male guardian dogs must complete all health testing before and after they turn one year old. Once testing is complete the dog will become an official stud for our program. Typically, males begin breeding at 1 year old and continue for up to 7 years, but average 4 years. We do our best to give as much notice as possible, but sometimes notice can be given 1-2 days in advance so excellent communication is a must for this reason! In extreme cases, male guardians can be used anywhere from 2-3x a month or not at all for months at a time! Males will be gone from the guardian home residence for a couple hours or days at a time. After the male has completed the set number of years within the agreement, we pay for him to be neutered and he is returned to you to live out the rest of his happy life!
Along with getting a “pick of the litter” puppy at no cost, we also offer free boarding when we do not have puppies! We also pay $500 for each litter whelped for female Guardian dogs who have earned their Canine Good Citizen certificate!
Being a Guardian and caring for a dog is a big commitment, so please talk with your spouse and family members before inquiring. If you are seriously interested in being considered, please click on the button below and submit an application. Thank you for your interest!
Journey is seeking her guardian home!
Journey is a 7 month old mini/medium chocolate goldendoodle. She should mature to about 30/35 lbs. Journey is already crate trained and potty trained, and is excelling in AKC Star Puppy Obedience class. We think Journey would do best in a home with older kids, another dog, or being the only dog. She LOVES to cuddle and be held. She is incredibly friendly and loves all people and dogs. She would thrive in a home where she can be the center of attention and continue training.
We are hoping to add two more puppies this year!
This year we hope to add two more exceptional dogs to our program. We would love to keep back a female from Macie and Theo’s litter since we have not kept one of Macie’s puppies back yet, and this will be our only opportunity before she retires! We also hope to add a small mini boy later this year. Both of these opportunities will be puppies. Of course, we also have an older puppy Journey looking for a guardian home if the right home comes forward. Please read more about our Guardian Program on the website and fill out an application if you think your family would be a good fit!
